I have lost 2 to PKD and I have 2 month old with it but doing ok right now her creatine just jumped up to 2 so we are not going to dialysis yet but we are still watching.

Rebecca, with the right care, a 10 pound baby can certainly do peritoneal dialysis. I’m not sure about other issues, but size alone won’t keep him from doing well on dialysis. Our son survived from 4 pounds to 25 pounds, and is preparing for a transplant. Don’t give up!

My nephew is currently in the picu on an ecmo machine. the drs repaired part of his heart problems but also informed us that a baby his size has a slim chance on surviving dialysis. he is only three weeks old and weighs 4.7 kilos about 10 lbs. reading your stories gives me hope. thank you

My daughter was born with a kidney disease called Polycystic Kidney Disease. This causes multiple cysts to grow and the kidneys become very enlarged. Most babies dont live very long with this disease. Needless to say I had a son who had it also and only lived 10 hours. Thanks to the man above my daughter will be 3 months old on the 17th of Feb. She has been on dialysis since she was 3 weeks old. She had her first kidney taken out at 3 weeks old also. She just had her second kidney taken out about a week and half ago. So she no longer has kidneys. She just had a G tube put in also. Shes doing so good. Shes such a fighter. Shes doing well with her dialysis. Im learning the dialysis machine now to prepare for her to come home. She will be on it at least 16 hours out of the day when she comes home. We have alot of ups and downs but she makes it well worth it. After losing one child already to this disease I’ll do anything to keep her here on earth with me. God is making that happen for us. Its nice to read these replys and see that there is other people out there in the same situation and that Im not alone. I will be praying for all of you. Everyone keep there heaads up and keep fighting for your child. We are the only ones that can fight for them.

My little nephew 1 month old is diagnosed with acute renal failure when he started a fever on his 7 days old, admitted hospital for 5 days in private hospital(injection of antibiotic and fever medicine) and turned seizure and coma refer to our general hospital at
KUALA LUMPUR and doctor diagnosed as sepsis/pnemonia and became acute renal failure! Became too ill to be treated as doctor tried 2 times dialysis also failed, whatever treatment that can think of already given, no improvement! Everyone give up, sent back home without any medication, 13 days from hospital he became stronger but with kidney failure symptom wake up from coma, urine pass motion and can suck milk by himself, this few days signed of pain when carried and put him down he will cried loudly. We pray to Jesus for a miracle healing. As his improvement all have been proven, now waiting another miracle healing on his kidney as dialysis is too painful for a small baby.

Just wanted to let you know that my daughter used Gavin and Lulu’s wonderful pics for a visual aid in a speach she gave for school, (her RN program). She left the house this morning feeling more prepared, excited to raise some awarenes…and bawlin like a baby! Also, I have been an eye, organ, ane tissue donor since my first driver’s licence over 45 years ago! God Bless the Babies!!!!!

And Gemma, I think it was about 5-6 months old that I spent almost every night crying, it’s such a tough time. With all the medications and the dialysis, this thing takes over your life and takes on a life of its own. I promise, it does get better. Even if things stay the same, you get into a routine and you cry less and laugh more. Lots of prayers for you and your family, you’re not alone!

Hope Gavin is doing well. We read your website as we waited for our little one to be born, he started dialysis a week after he was born. He’s turning one soon and gearing up for his transplant. I really hope your little boy gets better. My son is 6months old and was diagnosed with kidney failure at 5days old. It is such a struggle and all i seem to want to do is cry. He is on dialysis at home for 12 hours a night so i know what you have been through. I just pray to god that my little one pulls through.

Hello me and my wife are proud to be expecting a baby boy, with a due date of november 1st. We just found out that one of his kidneys may not work and the other one is dialated. I saw that your son only had one functioning kidney and the other barely hanging in there. I was wondering what kind of symptons baby Gavin was showing during the ultra sounds. were his fluid levels normal?
